About the Role

At MCITY Thrive, we believe that every child deserves a place to feel safe, supported, and seen. As a Child & Youth Worker, you are the heart of our home. You will work directly with children and youth in a highly personalized, 24-hour residential care setting. Your primary focus will be building trusting relationships, guiding youth through daily routines, teaching life skills, and providing trauma-informed support during moments of crisis. You will act as a mentor, an advocate, and a steady presence in their lives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Compassionate Care: Support youth with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, family-style meal preparation, and maintaining a clean, comfortable home environment.

  • Maintain Structured Routines: Facilitate wake-up, school departure, and bedtime routines, ensuring consistency and predictability to help reduce anxiety.

  • Life Skills Development: Teach practical, age-appropriate skills such as budgeting, cooking, laundry, and community navigation to foster independence.

  • Crisis Intervention: Utilize trauma-informed de-escalation techniques to manage behavioral crises safely and compassionately; conduct post-crisis debriefs.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Complete daily logs, incident reports, and Serious Occurrence Reports (SORs) accurately and in accordance with Ministry standards.

  • Recreational Engagement: Plan and participate in both in-home and community-based recreational activities that promote physical wellness and peer connection.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care (CYC), Social Service Worker (SSW), Psychology, or a related human services field.

  • Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with at-risk youth in a residential or group home setting.

  • Certifications: Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C, and valid certification in a recognized crisis intervention program (e.g., UMAB, CPI, or PMAB).

  • Clearances: Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) completed within the last 6 months, and an up-to-date immunization record.

  • Driving: Valid Ontario 'G' Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract.

  • Skills: Deep understanding of trauma-informed care, strong emotional regulation, excellent written/verbal communication, and the ability to work rotating shifts (including overnights and weekends).
